During our recent Environmental Studies School Charlene Jendry updated us on the use of our donations to the Seeds of Friendship. The women of Rwanda all plant the flowers to brighten their abodes – even in the most remote areas. The extra produce is brought to central areas for market sales. This picture is from one on the markets. Special permission was obtained by all concerned to show the “garden seed ladies” how wonderful the produce grows. Our fresh seeds are so much The villagers also wished us to know that the seeds are saved and the ‘grandma’s babies’ are in the photo. This makes it important to buy Open Pollinated seeds. Usually they are marked Heirloom or Heritage. The extra moneys gathered went into small local made ovens last year. This preserves the rain forest and allows the families to have a more efficient means of cooking (they use sand, clay and sweet potato leaves to make!). Each oven uses less that ¼ of the wood for fuel that they were using and the heat lasts longer. We are making a difference in the lives of these people. Please continue your generosity.
