National Garden Clubs, Inc. is sponsoring a Membership Contest beginning June 1, 2008. Increase your sate membership--participate in National Garden Clubs Membership Contest from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009. The STATE with the greatest percentage increase in members will win the honor of having a new canna cultivar named for their state. This new canna variety to be named for the winning state being grown by Dr. Jack Roberson of American Daylily & Perennial Co. Inc., is 3-1/2 feet high with a red/red-orange bloom and dark purple/black foliage. It can be grown in all states and will be made available for sale in Fall, 2009 at $14 each from the grower. It will be available to members in the winning state as well s nationwide. The contest runs from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009. The winner will be announced at the NGC Fall Board Meeting. This contest will have many beneficial results: Increase in members Increase in revenue for Clubs, States and NGC Increase in pride of membership in garden clubs Create positive publicity for garden clubs in their communities Beat the competition! Flower Show School Course I October 6-8, 2008 Cincinnati/Dayton Did you ever wonder who puts on the Amateur Flower Shows at Old Coney Island or the Hamilton County Fair or Harvest Home Fair? Or who judged them? What did they see in that blue ribbon design that made it better than the one I really liked that only got a yellow ribbon? This is your opportunity to find out at the Flower Show School being sponsored by National Garden Club Inc., Garden Club of Ohio, Inc. and your local affiliated Garden Clubs here in Cincinnati and in Dayton. This school is comprised of 4 classes one held every 6 months. The first class will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church on October 6, 7, & 8, 2008. These classes are open to those who would like to learn more about floral designs and/or horticulture for Flower Shows or their own educational benefit.
