Meet the Columbus District Director

I am Dotty Haney and am the current president of Shawnee Arrangers. I am a forty-plus year member, past president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the Pickaway County Garden Club. I am also a member of the Creative Arrangers Guild and am currently serving as treasurer of the Greater Columbus Council of Garden Clubs.

Raised on a farm in Pickaway County, the love of the land and soil is in my blood. My husband of fifty years, George, and I raised our two sons on my family’s farm. Now, a son is raising his family, the fourth generation, in the family home. My father was a farmer and owned several livestock auctions; I worked at these auctions as a bookkeeper. That eventually led me into the tax preparation service where I worked for over thirty years.

While raising my family, I was active in my sons’ extracurricular activities, including serving three terms as treasurer of their school’s booster club. I also was very active in Child Conservation League where I served as president, vice-president and treasurer. I helped lead the expansion of the league’s granting of yearly scholarships to local graduates.

When I joined the Pickaway County Garden Club, several members were flower show judges. They shared their experiences with me and I developed a love of flower arranging. After raising my family, I became more involved with arranging and began attending many flower arranging lessons. I recently attended Flower Show Schools, not to become a judge, but to learn in-depth the principles and art of floral designs.

I look forward to my two-year term as Columbus District Director.
